Peaceful Parliamentary Elections at Okpanam

The rescheduled parliamentary election which held on Saturday 9th April was hitch-free. The elections were held to elect federal representatives to seat at the Senate and House Representatives. No Okpanam indigene is known to have contested for any of these positions. Unlike one week previously, this time, there was no incident.
My investigations show that the crisis last week was avoidable. According a well respected source who spoke to me this morning, the breach of peace occurred because the well known tradition of having elders accompany the masquerade was not followed. It was alleged that as an instrument of communal expression, the Egwugwu should not have come out with all young boys knowing the recent history of youth activism and  riotous living. He said, the police mistook the appearance of the masquerade as an infringement on people's right to free movement .
Meanwhile there is only one  victim of the shooting still battling to regain the use of his leg. The victim we understand has been taken to a traditional bone setter for urgent treatment.
