The death has been announced of Acrhitect Mike Gwamnishu Chinweokwu, the first Architect to come from Okpanam.
Making the announcement was a family member and former Councillor for Okpanam, Hon. Andrew Onyemeziem who observed that the deceased was a "fine gentle man...(and) formost architect".
The statement noted that Chinweokwu died at 70years with over 50 years of architectural practice behind him.
Chinweokwu was a philanthropist, patriot and urbane man whose designs can be seen in the many works that he has done in Asaba, Benin City, where he lived for many years and different parts of the country.
He was a former National Secretary of the Okpanam Development Union, OPU and was a member of the Grail Movement.
He is survived by children and siblings amongst whom are Professor Mrs. Ndili, the first educated woman from Okpanam.
